CHAD FAULKNER FOR TENNESSEE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES 2008

Why I Am the Best Candidate for Tennessee House of Representatives:

I believe the year 2008 is a turning point for Campbell County, our state and our nation. As we go to the polls, we should be asking these questions.

1. Am I satisfied with what is happening in my own community?

2. Am I satisfied with what’s been going on for the last 2, 4 or even 10 years?

3. Is my community providing sufficient opportunities and jobs for our citizens and children?

4. Are current laws working for the majority of our citizens or is there room for improvement?

5. Has my representative ever took time to listen to ME and what I care about?

What we need is someone who runs toward the problems and confronts them head-on instead of dodging the issues—That is what I’ve done every day for the last 13 years on the streets of Knox and Union Counties . I stand with people everyday--the hard-working, law-abiding and tax-paying citizens that make our communities strong; and it is my allegiance to the people that has given me the passion and drive to be in public service. Law enforcement is not an easy job, but it has taught me how laws affect the lives of people you and I come into contact with everyday. My time in public service has equipped me to face the difficult challenges required of the office of state representative—this job is not for the weak of heart or someone with inexperience in public service, it should be reserved as a seat for someone who understands the laws and HOW they affect our everyday lives—this is why I decided to be the people’s candidate. During my time as a public servant, I have also seen people’s lives unravel in the judicial system as I have stood beside the mother, the father, the child, an elderly grandparent who has been the victim of a violent crime directly or indirectly. The laws have to work better for the victim instead of the perpetrator—this is an issue that many citizens have spoke to me about, and I plan to do what is necessary to ensure that citizens are treated fairly and perpetrators pay for their crimes.

What Changes I Will Make as Your State Representative?

When the people vote for me on August 7th, they will not get a status quo politician, but someone who will speak for them, fight for them and represent them. My do or will always be open to the people and I will always strive to have my hands on the pulse of Campbell and Union counties by listening to the people that entrust me to represent them in Nashville!

There are many voters who have become frustrated with the “same old, do-nothing” mentality of elected officials who promise the moon, but play the same old tune. On August 7th, if you are tired of the same overplayed music, drip of the faucet and scratch on the board, a vote for me as your state representative will move Campbell and Union counties in the direction the people want. This understanding will make a real difference for our community and for the people of Tennessee. That is why I’m the best man for state representative—I will represent the same people who I serve everyday through law enforcement and involvement in our communities.

How do I envision my roles and duties as a Member of the Tennessee House of Representatives?

I think the most important role as state representative is to be a public servant to the people who live in Campbell and Union Counties—to uphold, protect and stand before the House of Representatives with the values and interests that best serve the people I have stood beside for years—my friends, my family and my constituents who have entrusted me to this important role as their elected official and public servant. The laws that are created everyday will always be gauged by20the pulse that keeps the heart of Campbell and Union Counties beating strong. I plan to serve the best interests of the people of this great state in the same way and my office is always open to the citizens of Tennessee.

Three community issues.

There are many issues, but the ones that I will address here include:

Victim’s Rights –

After many years working on the streets for Knox County Sheriff’s Office, I have seen every type of crime that can be broken from misdemeanors to the most violent felony crimes. Because I’m in court on a regular basis, I have watched with frustration as laws in place often favor or protect the rights of the offender. The emotional impact on families and victims during this time is often heart-breaking. It’s difficult to watch as adults who victimize young children are allowed to return to our streets as a repeat offender after victimizing our children and citizens. I stand ready to challenge laws that continue to support criminals over victims.

During my 13 years experience in law enforcement, I have arrested many offenders in our community who were participating in criminal activities and rampages through our neighborhoods. Our laws are the best in the world, but there is those laws that favor the offender of a crime over the victim of a crime.

Support of Public Education -

Supporting our educators with the tools they require will empower our children to meet the demands of tomorrow’s technologies and industries. There are so many variables in the education of children. I believe that each child has a unique contribution to make to the world and that our schools can customize an approach for each individual child. For this reason, I will work with educators to make sure we are prepared to meet these new challenges.

I believe that providing a structured, fun, healthy, safe and creative environment are key to the success of every child and that every child has unique abilities that will contribute to our world when a teacher sees the potential. I believe that teachers have to be equipped to not only evaluate children through grade point averages, but through personality and creative cues. I also believe that as parents, educators and adults, we have to allow children to be children and this belief must be the center focus of every teaching curriculum.

Controlled Spending –

Taxation is at an all-time high—I am 100% against a state income tax and will support Union, Campbell and Tennessee citizens to prevent any proposed legislation threatening to impose any new or inflated taxes at the expense of our citizens. Tennesseans are already taxed in excess and throwing money at a problem is not always the solution—there are many opportunities that our communities can enjoy without shooting ourselves in the foot through taxation. A state income tax would discourage growth by taking even more hard-earned money out of the pockets of our citizens and scattering it to the far reaches of the wind. I will always strive to make sure our laws encourage growth and opportunity without hurting the people that make Tennessee a great place to live, work and raise a family.
